The marble statue is dedicated to St. Ercolano, the patron saint of Maderno and also of Riviera which is celebrated on August 12. It was built in 1838 by the sculptor Cesare Nesti and Adam and Tagliani. It was the result of a vote of the people of Maderno on the occasion of an epidemic of cholera broke out in July 1836. It was asked to S. Ercolano to protect the population, which in change would erect a statue. In September, fortunately the epidemic was over and so it was realized the statue.
